Unless you can prove your Indian nationality, you will pay full price! You will find diverse and varied prices on different sites and blogs. The only one that counts is the one displayed on the ticket purchase

This will probably be your most expensive visit to India. But compared to other monuments or museums in France or other countries, it is more than reasonable!

Visit the Taj Mahal with children

How much time should you allow to visit the Taj Mahal with children? It’s not as simple as that to answer this question… We spent 3 hours inside the Taj Mahal and we didn’t see the time passing! Honestly, we would have stayed a little longer if our day’s schedule hadn’t been so busy.

The Taj Mahal enclosure is very large (approximately 600m long by 300m wide). There are numerous spots to take pretty photos and those to simply admire this marvel even more!

If you are accompanied by a guide, he will take the time to explain the history of the building and answer your questions. If you visit on your own, you will certainly read a few things in your guide. This all takes time too!

Do the children enjoy the visit as much as the parents?

Our children all loved visiting the Taj Mahal. Something difficult to describe emerges from this place, the sensation of truly finding yourself facing a wonder of the world. And the children felt it too.

In addition, we were accompanied by a fantastic guide and that can change everything in a visit. At their age (we had four children aged 5, 7, 8 and 9 for this visit), they were able to immerse themselves in the history of the place and understand the little anecdotes shared by our French-speaking guide.

They also took advantage of the calm of the place which contrasts radically with the bustling atmosphere of the city of Agra. They ran, jumped and played on the large esplanades. In short, they would have liked to stay longer too!

Visit the Taj Mahal with children

Mohan, our guide, transformed the visit of an exceptional building into an exceptional moment . If we all loved our time at the Taj Mahal so much, it is largely thanks to him.

Mohan is a French-speaking guide  who was recommended to us by  Caroline, our expatriate friend in New Delhi . And it turns out it’s just fantastic!! He is passionate and exciting and very  attentive to the needs of families . He is absolutely charming with children and knows how to capture their attention.

At the entrance to the Taj, there are also certainly guides offering their services. I admit that, as we were with Mohan, I didn’t pay too much attention. In the other sites we visited in the north of the country, prices were regulated for guides. This allows you not to get into endless negotiations and also not to have the impression of being cheated or of being a walking wallet.

Our friend Caroline advised us to pay Mohan between 2000 and 2500 rupees for the two visits we did with him (Taj Mahal and Red Fort of Agra). But as we loved it and there were 8 of us (that’s already a good little group), we gave him 3500 rupees. That’s a little less than €40 for the two visits for 8, for a great guide who speaks French very well. From our European point of view, it would have even deserved more! From an Indian’s point of view, this is a very generous sum. If you are not too comfortable with the price not being fixed in advance, feel free to ask Mohan his price and agree with him in advance.
